Product description

Know Your Plant

The String of Pearls plant (Senecio rowleyanus) is native to southwestern Africa. Its natural habitat includes regions in Namibia and parts of South Africa. In these areas, it typically grows in arid or semi-arid environments.

The plant is well-adapted to survive in conditions with limited water availability. Its succulent nature allows it to store water in its round leaves, helping it endure periods of drought. In its native habitat, the String of Pearls often grows trailing down rocky outcrops or hanging from ledges.

The String of Pearls has become a popular ornamental plant in cultivation worldwide due to its unique appearance and relatively easy care requirements. It's often grown as a houseplant in containers, hanging baskets, or as a trailing element in succulent gardens. Keep in mind that, when cultivating it indoors, replicating its natural habitat by providing well-draining soil and avoiding overwatering is crucial for its health and longevity.

Pearls Care

  1. Light:String of Pearls plants prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the delicate leaves.

  2. Watering:Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's crucial not to keep the soil consistently moist.

    • Water sparingly during the winter months when the plant is in a dormant phase.
  3. Soil:Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix to provide the proper drainage for the plant.

  4. Temperature:String of Pearls prefers temperatures between (21-33°C) during the day and slightly cooler temperatures at night.

  5. Humidity:They can tolerate average indoor humidity, but good air circulation is essential to prevent fungal issues.

  6. Propagation:Propagate by taking cuttings from healthy stems. Allow the cuttings to callus for a day or two before planting them in soil.

  7. Fertilization:Feed with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing during the winter.

  8. Pests:Keep an eye out for pests like mealybugs. If you notice any, treat them promptly with insecticidal soap.

  9. Container:Choose a hanging basket or a container with drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.
