Know Your Plant
The Fluffy Ruffle Fern, scientifically known as Nephrolepis exaltata 'Fluffy Ruffles,' is a cultivar of the Boston fern distinguished by its uniquely textured fronds. It is also called as morpankhi fern or fluffy ruffle fern. Its delicate, lace-like foliage features finely dissected edges, giving it a soft and airy appearance reminiscent of ruffles. This fern, like its parent species, thrives in moist, well-draining soil and prefers indirect light, making it an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor ornamental use. With its charming and distinctive foliage, the Fluffy Ruffle Fern adds a touch of elegance and whimsy to any garden or interior space, while also providing the same air-purifying benefits and easy care that characterize its parent species.Water: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering. Mist the leaves regularly to increase humidity.
Care:
-
Light: Fluffy Ruffle Ferns prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch their delicate fronds. Place them near a north- or east-facing window where they can receive gentle, filtered sunlight.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the fern whenever the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain from the pot's bottom to prevent root rot. Mist the foliage regularly to maintain humidity levels, especially if you live in a dry climate or if your home has low humidity.
-
Humidity: Fluffy Ruffle Ferns thrive in high humidity environments. If the air in your home is dry, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water. Grouping plants together can also help increase humidity around them.
-
Temperature: These ferns prefer temperatures between 15-32°C. Avoid exposing them to drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations, as they can stress the plant.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter, such as peat moss or compost. A slightly acidic to neutral pH soil is ideal for Fluffy Ruffle Ferns.
-
Fertilization: Feed your fern with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization or cease it altogether during the winter months when growth slows down.
-
Pruning: Trim off any yellow or dead fronds regularly to encourage new growth and maintain the plant's appearance. You can also remove any brown or dried-out tips from the fronds.
-
Repotting: Repot the Fluffy Ruffle Fern every 1-2 years, preferably in spring. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one to provide room for root growth. Refresh the potting soil during repotting to replenish nutrients
