ABOUT PLANT:

Lotus and water lilies are aquatic plants that can be grown in pots, creating a beautiful and serene addition to your home or garden. Here are some general care tips for lotus and water lily plants in pots:

Pot Selection:

1. Size: Choose a wide and shallow container for lotus plants, as they prefer shallow water. For water lilies, a deeper pot is suitable.

2. Material: Use a non-toxic and sturdy container. Plastic, fiberglass, or ceramic pots work well.

Planting:

1. Soil: Use a heavy clay loam soil or a specialized aquatic plant soil. Avoid using regular garden soil as it may not provide the necessary nutrients.

2. Fertilizer: Lotus and water lilies are heavy feeders. Use a fertilizer specifically formulated for aquatic plants. Add fertilizer tablets to the soil during the growing season.

3. Plant Depth: Plant the lotus tuber or water lily rhizome at the appropriate depth. Lotus tubers should be placed just below the soil surface, while water lily rhizomes can be planted about 6 to 18 inches deep, depending on the variety.

Water Requirements:

1. Water Level: Maintain a consistent water level. Lotus plants prefer shallow water, typically around 2 to 6 inches deep, while water lilies can be grown in deeper water.

2. Temperature: Both lotus and water lilies prefer warm water. Keep the water temperature between  (22-35°C).

Sunlight:

1. Light: Provide full sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. Lotus and water lilies thrive in direct sunlight.

2. Shade: In very hot climates, provide some afternoon shade to prevent excessive heat stress.

Maintenance:

1. Pruning: Trim dead or yellowing leaves regularly to encourage new growth.

2. Thinning: Thin out excess growth to allow proper air circulation and prevent overcrowding.

3. Winter Care: In colder climates, bring the potted plants indoors or to a sheltered area during the winter months. Alternatively, you can sink the pots to the pond bottom to protect the tubers or rhizomes from freezing.

4. Pest Control: Keep an eye out for pests like aphids or spider mites. Use appropriate measures like insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.

General Tips:

1. Water Quality: Use clean, non-chlorinated water. If using tap water, let it sit for 24 hours to allow chlorine to dissipate.

2. Containers: Clean the containers periodically to prevent the buildup of algae and debris.
